Before proceeding, you need to check whether BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) and Windows Update service. Both of these services should be enabled. If any of them is disabled, you will unable to install updates and thus, you encounter this error. You can do by following these steps.
Right-click to the “Start” button and select “Command Prompt (Admin)” from here.
Type here “net start BITS” and press Enter. It will show the message that the said service is running.
Now type “net start wuauserv”, and press Enter. It will also confirm the enabled Windows Update Service. If any of these services is disabled earlier, these commands will start them.
Check for Updates once again. I am sure, you have fixed the error successfully, and this time, you will install the available updates easily.
Method # 1: Turn on Data Execution Prevention (Most Working Solution)
Data Execution Prevention is a feature that is by default turned on. But due to some abrupt changes in the system by a defective program, it is turned off. So, you need to turn it on again. Follow the steps below to do so.
Go to the “Windows Explorer” and right-click “This PC” icon. Select “Properties” from the context menu.
In the left pane, you need to select “Advanced System Settings” option.
Now select the “Advanced” tab and click “Settings” under “Performance” section as shown in the image below.
Select the “Data Execution Prevention” tab from here.
Now click the radio button “Turn on DEP for Essential Windows Programs and Services only” and click “Apply” and “OK” to save your preferences.
Method # 2: Stop & Restart Windows Update Service
If there is any glitch in the Windows Update service, that can also be a substantial reason to show this error. So, you need to stop this service and then restart it to remove any interruption.
Right-click the Start button and select “Run” dialogue box from here. Type “services.msc” and press “Enter” to go ahead.
In the Service window, scroll down to the end of the list and select “Windows Update” service. Right-click and select “Stop” from the context menu.
Wait for a while and then again right-click to it and select “start” option.
Now check for Windows Update again. This time it will not show the error message.
Method # 3: Install Problematic Update Manually
Usually, the reason behind this error is the Update known as “KB907417” that is for “MS Office” components. This update is used for MS Excel and MS Word. So, you need to download it from Here and install it manually to avoid this error.
As you finish its installation, reboot the system, and the error is gone.
Method # 4: Windows Update Troubleshooter Utility
Windows Update Troubleshooter utility detects and fixes every error related to Windows Update. So, you need to use this utility to fix the error code “80244019.”
Go to the “Control Panel” and select “Troubleshooting” from there.
In the “System and Security” category, you will see an option “Fix problems with Windows Update.” Select it to proceed.
Windows Update Troubleshoot utility appears on the screen. Select “Next” to start the troubleshooting process. Wait for a while until it detects and fixes the error.
When the process is finished, you will see the result screen. Check here and be happy that the error code “80244019” is fixed.
Method # 5: Add Restriction on Windows Update
If your system is fetching the updates improperly, the Windows Update server will refuse to provide your system with the required updates. So, you need to add a restriction on Windows Update to check for necessary Updates. Usually, it is not recommended, but it’s ok. You can enable it after installing all of the updates.
Type “Check for Updates” in the Cortana Search bar and select as you get it in the search results.
Select “Advanced options” in the right pane in the Windows Update section.
You will see the option with a check box “Give me Updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows.” Check this option. Close the window and restart the system to apply the changes.

Method # 6: Disable Antivirus
If you are using a third-party antivirus program, you need to disable it. It may be interrupting the Windows Update service. So, disable it by following the instructions below.
Go to the Notification area where you can see the icon of the “Antivirus Tool.” Right-click on it and select “Disable” option from here.
