How to Fix Inaccessible Boot Device Error in Windows 10, 8.1, 8 and 7

The inaccessible Boot Device Error which we also call the Blue Screen of Death is extremely frustrating. Though the problem is fairly easy to resolve but it isn’t necessary only a single solution might be helpful.

So, we have listed down 5 of the possible solutions that you can try to fix INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error.

1: Enabling AHCI Mode in BIOS

This is one of the best fixes to the error. Simply by enabling AHCI mode in your BIOS, you can get rid of the problem. Here is what you need to do.

When the computer boots, keep pressing F2. This will take you inside the BIOS mode.

Inside the BIOS, go to Advanced and from there change Set AHCI Mode to enabled. Alternatively, you can also set it to Auto

Save changes and restart your PC.

2: Tighten the Loose Cables – Huh Really?

While it may seem like a very odd statement but sometimes loose cables also cause the blue screen of death to appear again and again.

Firstly, shit down your PC completely, unplug it from the main power source and open its case. Now check if all the cables are connected properly.

You can also try connecting your Hard Drive on a different port on motherboard. It helps most of the time.

3: Updating Drivers

To enable your windows to fully utilize the computer’s hardware, the drivers must be up-to-date. If they are outdated, the most common issue that occurs is “Inaccessible_Boot_Device Error.

You must keep all the drivers updated. Visit the hardware manufacturer’s website and find the latest drivers. Download and install them, restart your computer and hopefully the error will be resolved.

4: Enter Safe Mode

Restart the computer and press and hold the F8 key.

It will give you options to Start Windows Normally or enter Safe Mode and Safe Mode with networking. Using the keyboard keys, hover to Safe Mode with Networking and press enter.

5: Reset Your Windows

Caution! This will delete all the files on C drive. Create a backup before you reset your windows.

If you are using Windows 10, you can perform a reset. You’ll need a Windows 10 installation media to re-install the windows after Deleting the previous one. Create a bootable USB flash drive with the Windows on it or use Media Creation tool.

To start the reset process, restart your computer and start the Automatic Repair Mode. Do this by pressing the F8 or F12 key.

Go to Troubleshoot>Reset this PC>Remove everything.

When the computer asks to connect Windows 10 media installation file, do as directed.

Make sure you select the drive where Windows is installed and select Just Remove my File and finally hit the Reset button.

Follow the on-screen instructions and be patient while it resets.
