Among many of the features of Windows 10, hyper-v is another interesting one. The Hyper-V or the Hypervisor is the additional layer in between the physical and virtual spheres. The primary function of Hyper-V is to manage your system’s hardware resources and distribute them efficiently over the virtual machines.
Hyper-V is all about virtualization, and Windows 10 includes the hardware virtualization support same as Window 8 had. With Hyper-V enabled, you can easily move the VMs from the server to client with the need to re-learn the use of Hyper-V features and its outstanding tools. As compared to Windows 8, the Hyper-V feature in Windows 10 is much advanced with a whole new graphical interface that is user-friendly as well.
New Features of Hyper-V
The advance features that were introduced in Windows 10 Hyper-V are:
- Hyper-V Manager Down-level management: With this it can easily manage computers that are running Hyper-V on Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2 and Windows 10 as well.
- Linux Secure Boot: The Ubuntu 14.04 and later, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 OS.
- Windows PowerShell Direct: A whole new thing with the ability to run commands on a virtual machine directly from the host operating system.
- Hot Add and Remove for Memory and Network adapters: It works with the generation 2 machines that run both on Windows and Linux.
Now that we had a brief overview of Hyper-V let me tell you how can you enable it in Windows 10. Below I have explained it in a step-by-step manner with relevant images. Take your time to go through the guide!
Guide to Activate Hyper-V in Windows 10
1: Firstly in the Cortana Search box right next to the Windows button, type “Programs and Features” and click on it from the displayed results.
2: Next, you have to click on the link saying “Turn Windows Features on or off”. If prompted by the UAC, hit yes.
